Jimmie Åkesson the leader of Sweden Democrats

If you believe the popular media it is the done thing today to say someone is either totally good or totally bad and woe betide you if you say otherwise!

Disclaimer

Before I begin I need to point something out. I am not a Nazi sympathiser. My politics are centre, I straddle the middle line and in my younger years I was definitely to the left. That is until the left got taken over by the ‘loony liberals’.

I don’t like racism, sexism, cruelty to animals, people who hit women, rapists, bankers, real estate agents or the people who try to stop you in the street to sign up to whatever cause they are promoting. We call them ‘chuggers’ in the UK, as in charity muggers.

Why The Need For A Disclaimer?

I felt I had to write the disclaimer because in the past I have been labelled many things from a fascist to a bleeding heart liberal. Once within 3 comments of a thread on Facebook. It isn’t often someone can be called a fascist and a bleeding heart liberal inside 3 comments!

You see, today it seems that everyone wants to put you into a category. Everyone needs to be pigeonholed in one way shape or another.

For example, my former boss once commented that someone was ‘SD’. In Sweden, SD is short for Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden Democrats) which is Sweden’s version of Ukip and sometimes it is said as another way of saying someone is a racist. Sverigedemokraterna, like Ukip, are portrayed in the media as racists, Nazis and so on.

When she said SD it was in a way that indicated she really thought he was a terrible person. I asked why she thought he was SD and she replied that he expressed some comments about too many foreigners were allowed into the country taking jobs from Swedes. He himself was unemployed and couldn’t get work.

I had never had a moments problem with the guy, got on well with him. After all, I was a foreigner with a job he could do so you’d think if he had a problem I would be a prime candidate.

What is more likely is he made a comment out of a moment of frustration but the fact he was labelled as ‘SD’ and thus afterwards was kind of regarded as a bad person alarmed me.

Adolf Hitler

Hitler is one of the most derided people in history. He is responsible for some of the most atrocious acts of the 20th century or indeed that mankind has ever seen. But did he do anything good?

Good Points

We all know what evil acts Hitler was responsible for, but did he do any good? It is widely accepted that Hitler was pure evil, nothing about him was good but is not true.

  • Hitler loved animals! He had his beloved dog, Blondie but more than that he banned vivisection (animal experiments), because he could see how futile and unnecessary the experiments on animals were.
  • Hitler banned supermarkets, or the version they had back then, because he wanted local small businesses to prosper.
  • Well all know about Volkswagen and how the Beetle came about. Hitler wanted ever family to have a car and Volkswagen (Peoples ‘s Car) was the company that provided them.
  • He was the first leader of any country to introduce state funded art programs and banned degrading modern art.
  • He encouraged healthy youth activities and social programmes to enhance cultural pride and individual self worth, such as sports and recreational activities.

Don’t get me wrong, none of the above in any was excuses or outweighs what evil deeds he committed.

But, it does show that he was not 100% evil! He should be remembered for the evil deeds he committed, they should never be forgotten or be allowed to happen again but at the same time why gloss over the good that he did?

Is Modern Media To Blame?

It always strikes me as funny how when a celebrity get’s caught up in a sex offence, especially if it is paedophilia, that their work is removed from the public domain.

If you are an artist who wants your work withdrawn why take your manager or record company to prison? Just have sex with an under age girl or boy and the rest will take care of itself!

It’s happened to Gary Glitter, Jimmy Saville*, Rolf Harris and the like. Say what you like about them, love them or hate them but their work is of cultural importance. But now none of their records or TV appearances can see the light of day again because they have been found guilty of crimes against children.

* Jimmy Saville was never actually found guilty because he died before any charges could be brought against him.

I often wondered if Michael Jackson had he been found guilty would his entire catalogue have been banned? I sometimes wonder if he was found innocent of child abuse because his management bribed the jurors. It certainly would have been advantageous for them to have done so even if it cost them $30m!

God forbid a life long icon should be accused of anything like that because a life time of good can be erased by 5 minutes of stupidity.

Take George Michael, one of the greatest singers the UK has produced. What is he most remembered for? Cottaging for sex in public places and crashing his car while high on weed not his music.

It’s a shame and it is down to the media. Okay, he did the stupid things but the media blew it all up out of proportion.

Shades of Grey

It seems there are no shades of grey in the modern age. You are either good or bad.

This is never more true than with former Ukip leader Nigel Farage and Sweden Democrat leader, Jimmie Åkesson.

The two have been labelled as racists, fascists and Nazis in the media in the past. Farage is such a racist that he is married to a German. It doesn’t matter that the accusations don’t make sense, the media relies on their readers being lazy enough to not go and check facts.

Most people today are spoon fed information. Spoon fed ‘facts’ and worse of all, spoon fed points of view that suit an agenda of the people who own the media empire.

It has been like that for years but you’d think in the modern age of the Internet that people would be a little more savvy and check things out for themselves instead of putting a label on someone and feeling comfortable knowing that that person is.

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing someone share an opinion with someone they dislike. They then try and justify why they share the same opinion because, God forbid, we might share something in common with someone we despise!
